Out of the city. Into the weekend.
Sometimes, you don’t need much: a free Saturday, a packed gravel bike, and a route that clears your head. This weekend ride takes you from Munich straight into the green – along dreamy trails, quiet forest paths and past serene lakes all the way to Lake Tegernsee. Destination: the beautiful Blyb Hotel. A place to arrive and unwind.
The Way There: Isar, Forest & Views
Start early, ideally right by the Isar in Munich, to have more free time at your destination. Early in the morning, you’ll still have the riverside mostly to yourself. Just beyond the city limits, you dive into nature. Forests alternate with open fields, small villages appear and vanish again. The first stop: the idyllic Deiniger Weiher – perfect for a quick break with coffee.

From there, the route continues toward Thanning, then on to Dietramszell and finally to Kirchsee. It’s worth taking a short detour to the shore here: the water sparkles and the mountains draw near. You can take a swim already – or grab a gelato in Bad Tölz before tackling the final climb to Lake Tegernsee. From there, enjoy the last few kilometers with sweeping lake views.
Food and drink stops along the way:
- Waldhaus Deininger Weiher (after 25 km)
- Café Schwalbe Dietramszell (after 43 km)
- Getränke Binder Dietramszell (after 43 km, open until 1 p.m.)
- Gasthof zum SchĂĽtzenwirt (after 59 km)
- Various options in Bad Tölz (after 62 km)

The Destination: Arrival at the Blyb
After around 81 kilometers and 930 meters of elevation gain, you’ll arrive at the Blyb Hotel. If you left early, you’ll still have the afternoon ahead of you: ideal for a swim in the lake, putting your feet up in the garden, or enjoying a cold drink on the terrace. A sauna is also available for relaxation. The house blends alpine design with urban minimalism – the perfect mix of style and downtime. The restaurant? Highly recommended for dinner.

Return to Munich: Two Routes, One Goal
If you’re planning to ride back after a night at the Blyb, you’ve got two options:
The sportier route starts with a steep climb to the Neureuther Hut and continues to the Gindelalmen. Around 500 extra meters of climbing make this a mini mountain challenge – rewarded with spectacular views. Some sections may even call for a push bike moment. 🙂
Prefer a more relaxed return? Take the flatter option. Both versions pass Lake Schliersee, where a swim break is highly recommended. From there, follow the Mangfall northward – past the charming Miesbach town square and through forest trails all the way back to Munich.
To finish it all off, there’s a little trail highlight waiting: the Isar Trails, the perfect way to round off a gravel weekend. Whichever route you choose – the return perfectly completes the ride from Munich to Tegernsee and the Blyb Hotel.
Food and drink stops along the route:
- Neureuther Alm (after 7 km uphill on route option 1)
- Gindelalmen (after 9 km uphill on route option 1)
- Café Milchhäusl at Lake Schliersee (after 19 km on option 1)
- Various options in Miesbach (after 30 km on option 1)
- Maxlmühle (Fr–Sun and public holidays only, after 42 km on option 1)
- Postwirt Sauerlach (after 62 km on option 1)
