Das Kokon is an apartment house with four design holiday apartments in Leutasch in Tyrol, around 1.5 hours from Munich at 1,100 metres. There is a room for bikes and skis, a small sauna in the basement and a kitchenette in every apartment. In winter the start of the cross-country trails is a three-minute walk from the house. Good for self-caterers who like architecture and are looking for an alternative to road cycling in winter.
If you are looking for an alternative to road cycling in winter, cross-country skiing is definitely a good choice. It is my absolute favourite sport in winter, so it was finally time for a cross-country skiing adventure.
Design meets nature at the Kokon in Leutasch
Only 1.5 hours from Munich, the idyllic Leutasch Valley offers ideal conditions. At an altitude of 1,100 metres it guarantees reliable snow and an excellent network of cross-country trails. The starting point for our tours was the Kokon apartment house in Weidach.
The “Kokon” apartment house in Leutasch, Tyrol, stands out above all for its unique design and sustainable construction. It consists of four modern holiday apartments whose wood and concrete structures blend harmoniously into the surrounding nature. We instantly fell in love with the architecture and its eye for detail, and with the refined simplicity that shows both on the outside and inside.
The apartments each sleep up to three people and can also be combined in pairs into larger units through a connecting door, which gives families or groups of friends of up to twelve people flexible options. Thanks to their south-facing terraces and balconies, every apartment is flooded with daylight. In the cleverly placed kitchenettes you can cook local specialities yourself. Whatever you do, don’t miss the Leutasch trout.
Architecture and alpine idyll
Our secret highlight of the Kokon apartments in Leutasch is without doubt the cleverly integrated sleeping nook. It is made of Swiss stone pine and designed to make the most of the space while creating a feeling of cosiness and warmth, for restful nights after an active day in the impressive Tyrolean outdoors.
In the basement there is also a small but lovely sauna, ideal for winding down after a day on the trails. The apartment house is the perfect starting point for diving into the winter world. It sits below a small ski lift, and the start of the trails is just a 3-minute walk away.
Unique cross-country trails right on the doorstep
Leutasch, part of the Olympia Region Seefeld, is known for its impressive trail network, which offers cross-country skiers more than 280 kilometres of classic and skating trails. With routes for every level, from beginner to pro, everyone finds their ideal track through the snowy landscape here.

Our cross-country skiing holiday at the Kokon was a perfect combination of sport and relaxed self-catering. The unspoilt nature, the extensive trail network and the cosy accommodation made this break unforgettable. Highly recommended.
